Today's Details

This morning, I posted the second part of a one-week series where I would be styling a shift dress for day and night. You can see that post here. I totally dropped the ball and forgot to link the details- sorry!

I had a few questions about where some of the items were from, so I'm here with some answers tonight :)

I bought this dress on sale at Target a few weeks ago, but I cannot, for the life of me, find this dress online! You may be able to find it in your local Target. Otherwise, here are some similar options! I've included a variety of price points for every budget.

This is clutch is from Old Navy, here and these shoes were originally purchased from Windsor. However, they were from last fall and are now sold out. Some similar options are below.

I received this scarf for Christmas last year and I love it! I wear it so often, no matter what season it is. Once again, some similar options are below in a range of prices. One of them is only $6!!

My Go-to Summer Look

If you've followed this blog for a while or are somewhat familiar with my style, then you probably know that I love an easy and casual look that looks put-together... I mean, who doesn't?
This look is just that. It's pretty effortless and I've had it on repeat a lot lately...

a solid tee or cami, a tied button-up oxford shirt, jeans or shorts, and simple oxfords or sandals.

This has been the perfect outfit for me all summer. I love tying a button-up shirt and leaving it open instead of buttoning it up. It creates a casual look and allows you to be cool, especially with warmer temperatures.
This also works well with sandals, but working in an office or from home often, I usually like to wear closed toed shoes- especially comfortable loafers.

When you're going for a simple look like this, try mixing patterns- which will make even the most casual outfit pop. Wearing a striped button-up, like this one from J.Crew Factory and leopard loafers give that effect.

Tulle & Sequins

Ever since I saw a white tulle skirt in Anthropologie a few years ago, it's been at the top of my want list. However, the price tag was never in my budget so I have done without. Since then I have been searching for the perfect tulle skirt and I finally found this one from Sammy Dress.

I've seen tulle skirts worn in so many classic ways and as much as I wanted to pair this with a casual chambray top, I decided to mix it up this time.

The gold sequined details, the brown belt, and these leopard heels all tied together perfectly and my pink wallet and lipstick created a nice pop of color!

Gingham & Leopard

Two of my favorite things, two things I've been trying to find for a long time, two items you absolutely need in your closet...

Leopard loafers and a Gingham shirt.

A pink gingham shirt to be specific.

I have been searching for these two items since September of 2013. There are a lot of leopard loafers on the market right now, but finding some that are cute, comfortable, and affordable can be hard. I love these loafers from Mindy Mae's Market though! They are super comfortable and I wear them almost everyday.

The Trend Transition

Can you believe it's already Thursday!? This week has flown by. I am really enjoying my new school and work schedule... I guess time flies when you're enjoying life. Before I know it, it's already going to be February!

Today I am so excited to be teaming up with one of lovely blogger friends, Lacey from A Glimpse of Glitter for a fun fashion collaboration.

Every year, there are always new trends that catch on in the fashion industry and they do so fast. Some of these trends die off fast and some of them stay in the spotlight for a long time. Today Lacey and I'd like to share which 2013 trends we think will carry into 2014. After all, I believe that only the best trends stay for years at a time and those trends usually create staple pieces.

Jessica's trend: leopard & pops of color
Lacey's trend: black and white & neon

One of my favorite trends from 2013 was leopard print. It's kind of funny because I was also a fan of leopard print as a pre-teen. I actually had a purple leopard bedding set that I adored. That's about as fabulous as it got in 2003, folks. Looking back at that now, I just laugh because it was SO tacky. What was I thinking!? The truth is, I love leopard more than ever now. Not necessarily in purple tones for my bedroom, but in bits and pieces in my wardrobe. Leopard is a bold print and with anything bold in fashion, I personally think less is more. You probably won't find me sporting a long leopard fur coat- simply because that just isn't me. However, you will find me wearing leopard in bits and pieces- a clutch, a headband, a cardigan, or in this case... with some cute ankle strap heels. The key is: pairing neutrals with bold prints like leopard and moderation... all things in moderation.

Here's a look at how I incorporated bold leopard prints in 2013:

And here is how I am wearing leopard in 2014...

These heels are fantastic because they are such a versatile piece that can be used in all four seasons. They are bold, but not flashy. They are subtle, but not boring.

Another trend that I have loved in 2013 is wearing bright, bold colors. I have had this bright pink scarf for years... I'm talking since 2007ish. I love the color of it and I wear it all the time, after all this time. I think the key to wearing bright pops of colors is just that... they need to be slight 'pops' and not too over the top.

The shirt that I am wearing is from Sammy Dress... it was the perfect top to pair with these heels because it is a neutral color- gray... not too mention the cute buttoned pockets!

Don't forget to head on over to A Glimpse of Glitter to see how she styled stripes and neon for 2014!
