Styling a Shift Dress: Day to Night Series

Lately, I have really been loving shift dresses. They are a perfect staple for summer- or any season, for that matter. Shift dresses are simple pieces that can be dressed for many occasions and they are extremely versatile.

I recently purchased this cute striped cotton shift dress from Target (on sale!) and today I'm going to show you how I wore it for a daytime look.

For this daytime look, I kept it really casual. I love how the dress is very light-weight and loose-fitting, but it doesn't look frumpy. A statement necklace and ankle strap sandals add a little bit of glam, without being too much- in order to stay with the simple theme of the outfit.

Be sure to check back on Thursday to see the full evening look with this dress!

Do you have a shift dress that you love wearing? How do you like to style it?

Thanks for reading!

My Go-to Summer Look

If you've followed this blog for a while or are somewhat familiar with my style, then you probably know that I love an easy and casual look that looks put-together... I mean, who doesn't?
This look is just that. It's pretty effortless and I've had it on repeat a lot lately...

a solid tee or cami, a tied button-up oxford shirt, jeans or shorts, and simple oxfords or sandals.

This has been the perfect outfit for me all summer. I love tying a button-up shirt and leaving it open instead of buttoning it up. It creates a casual look and allows you to be cool, especially with warmer temperatures.
This also works well with sandals, but working in an office or from home often, I usually like to wear closed toed shoes- especially comfortable loafers.

When you're going for a simple look like this, try mixing patterns- which will make even the most casual outfit pop. Wearing a striped button-up, like this one from J.Crew Factory and leopard loafers give that effect.

Summer Style with Pink Blush: Day 4

This week, I've been sharing my favorite items from Pink Blush. If you didn't see the other posts, you can see them here, here, and here

Today, I'm wearing this fabulous summer tunic. I love everything about it... the color the print, the fabric... it's perfect for summer.

Also, I drink way too much iced passion fruit herbal tea... but I'm not sorry about it. Has anyone tried Starbuck's teavana teas yet? I haven't, but I'm excited to try the herbal teas.

Don't forget to enter the Pink Blush giveaway too! This giveaway will close on Monday 7/14. All rules can be found here

Summer Style with Pink Blush: Day 2

Today is day two of my week-long series with Pink Blush and I am wearing a floral printed maxi dress

I cannot live without maxis in the summer. They are the perfect piece of clothing to keep you cool in the summer, without compromising your style.

Layering can be hard to do in the summer, but layering maxis can be so fun. For this particular outfit, I wore a chambray button-up because chambray seems to pull almost any outfit together! Next time you wear a chambray with a maxi, try double-knotting it instead of buttoning it up. This creates a casual, but pulled-together look that is perfect for summer!

Summer Style with Pink Blush: Day 1

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great fourth of July weekend. We went to Nebraska for the weekend to spend some time with family and it was so nice and relaxing.

Like always, Monday morning came way too fast and I am dreading the rest of the day.

The good news for today is that this post is the first of five posts this week where I will be sharing my summer style ideas with Pink Blush.

Pink Blush is a new online shop and I highly recommend that you check out their site. They have some amazing clothing and accessories for the summer... it's hard to pick just one thing!

This blouse has been my favorite thing to wear lately. It is very lightweight which is great for this Colorado heat, but it is something I can continue to wear throughout the rest of the year. It is currently sold out but Pink Blush offers some similar options here and here

If you're like me and you love what Pink Blush has on their site, you are in luck!

Pink Blush is kindly offering all Afternoon Style readers a $25 store credit to their site!

The Scalloped Trend

I have been following the scalloped trend for a while now and I am completely obsessed with it! I mean, how can you not be? There is just something so feminine and chic of scalloped edges on dresses, skirts and shirts. I can't get enough!

A couple of months ago I found a similar dress at J.Crew, but the $100 price point just wasn't realistic. So when I found this dress at Oasap, I knew I had to get it. They also have it in pink, blue, and black... and it's only $20! For those of you who can't get enough of this trend either, I've linked up some great options below.
