The Trend Transition

Can you believe it's already Thursday!? This week has flown by. I am really enjoying my new school and work schedule... I guess time flies when you're enjoying life. Before I know it, it's already going to be February!

Today I am so excited to be teaming up with one of lovely blogger friends, Lacey from A Glimpse of Glitter for a fun fashion collaboration.

Every year, there are always new trends that catch on in the fashion industry and they do so fast. Some of these trends die off fast and some of them stay in the spotlight for a long time. Today Lacey and I'd like to share which 2013 trends we think will carry into 2014. After all, I believe that only the best trends stay for years at a time and those trends usually create staple pieces.

Jessica's trend: leopard & pops of color
Lacey's trend: black and white & neon

One of my favorite trends from 2013 was leopard print. It's kind of funny because I was also a fan of leopard print as a pre-teen. I actually had a purple leopard bedding set that I adored. That's about as fabulous as it got in 2003, folks. Looking back at that now, I just laugh because it was SO tacky. What was I thinking!? The truth is, I love leopard more than ever now. Not necessarily in purple tones for my bedroom, but in bits and pieces in my wardrobe. Leopard is a bold print and with anything bold in fashion, I personally think less is more. You probably won't find me sporting a long leopard fur coat- simply because that just isn't me. However, you will find me wearing leopard in bits and pieces- a clutch, a headband, a cardigan, or in this case... with some cute ankle strap heels. The key is: pairing neutrals with bold prints like leopard and moderation... all things in moderation.

Here's a look at how I incorporated bold leopard prints in 2013:

And here is how I am wearing leopard in 2014...

These heels are fantastic because they are such a versatile piece that can be used in all four seasons. They are bold, but not flashy. They are subtle, but not boring.

Another trend that I have loved in 2013 is wearing bright, bold colors. I have had this bright pink scarf for years... I'm talking since 2007ish. I love the color of it and I wear it all the time, after all this time. I think the key to wearing bright pops of colors is just that... they need to be slight 'pops' and not too over the top.

The shirt that I am wearing is from Sammy Dress... it was the perfect top to pair with these heels because it is a neutral color- gray... not too mention the cute buttoned pockets!

Don't forget to head on over to A Glimpse of Glitter to see how she styled stripes and neon for 2014!

Holiday Party Looks

Hello, hello! Happy Tuesday. I don't know about you, but I have had a lot of holiday parties/ events to go to. and it's always nice to have a few fancy outfits that you can look to during this holiday season!

I am so excited because today I am teaming up with Leah from Eat.Pray.Wear.Love.
I met Leah on instagram (this is the place to create bloggerships if you didn't know lol) and I discovered that we actually live really close to one another. In fact, we only live like 30-40 minutes away from each other! Bloggers are few and far between here in Colorado so we were VERY excited about that!

In the spirit of the holidays, we decided to come up with some holiday looks to share with all of you!

I love how Leah's look is a more casual look, but is still fancy and sparkly. I am dying to know where her gold shoes are from!

I'm obsessed with this dress. I am super girly and I love being able to feel like I am playing dress-up as an adult! It's from Ivy & Blu which has become my favorite place to get dresses from. I actually wore it to go see The Nutcracker with my family, but it was extremely cold (-6 degrees to be exact) at the time so there was no way pictures were going to happen! Also, I bought these heels for $11 at Target! Talk about steal of the century... and they are the perfect burgundy color.

What are you wearing for your holiday look(s) this year? Do you like to keep it simple or do you love dressing up for the holidays?

Transitional Pieces: Chambray & Colored Jeans

Happy Wednesday,

I'm so happy that we are already halfway through the week.

I have a really fun collaboration planned for today with the girls from The Kiss Me Darling Blog. If you haven't checked out their blog yet, you need to! They have fabulous style and such fun fashion inspiration. Not to mention, they are two of the sweetest girls ever!

Can you believe it is already September?
Actually, can you believe it is still 95 degrees during the day where I live? (Southern Colorado)
I am so sick of it. I am ready to transition into fall weather, so hopefully it will come soon!

Danielle, Bethany, and I decided to team up and show you how we transition our style from summer to fall. We picked two staple pieces to work with: chambray and colored jeans.

Both chambray and colored jeans are such versatile pieces that can be used throughout all seasons of the year. Today, we are here to show you how we styled each for summer and fall.

As you can see, I used a bright pair of colored jeans for summer and I paired them with other bright and colorful pieces/ accessories. That outfit just screams summer. In order to transition into fall, I chose a more autumn color of jeans, mustard. I just love the colors that fall brings to your wardrobe. I decided to pair these jeans with some amazing riding boots and this lovely blazer to make it even more of an autumn-appropriate outfit.

I love the simple looks that Bethany (left) and Danielle (right) put together. One of the looks has some pops of coral, which of course screams summer! The other look mixes chambray with dark wash jeans, lace, and some gorgeous heels. I love how feminine and classy their looks are! They are perfect for transitioning into fall.

A few FYIs:

If you can't tell, I love colored jeans. That are such a fun way to make a statement with your outfit by bringing in some color. Also, when I wore these into work today, my manager decided to call me sunshine. So there's that. This hounds tooth clutch isn't actually a clutch. It's a 'business folder' from Office Max that holds all of my loose papers for school. Since these pictures were taken right before I went to class yesterday, I felt it was only appropriate to make it an accessory! TJ Maxx has some amazing colored pants. I got this pair and another pair from there for only $5 last week. YES, you heard me- FIVE DOLLARS!

blazer: TJ Maxx // mustard jeans: TJ Maxx // white tee: Target // riding boots: Pac Sun, old // leather shoulder bag: Pac Sun // hounds tooth 'clutch': Office Max // tortoise necklace & bracelets: JJWD
